December 17, 2021
Greetings from RSU #24,
I hope this update finds each of you well. It is hard to believe that 2022 is on the horizon. Let's all hope that 2022 sees the pandemic's impact on our schools drastically reduced.
We have started the budget process for the 2022-2023 school year. Our schools or departments within the school system are putting together the anticipated needs for next school year but doing it with a level of uncertainty that makes us very cautious. With the restructuring of the district that will come with the new facility and the unknown impact of the Coronavirus, the budget will most likely increase. The Budget and Finance Committee will begin its review of the budget in March. We will meet on March 2, March 16, and March 30 tentatively scheduled to take place at Sumner Memorial High School in the cafeteria starting at 5:30 p.m. The documents to be reviewed on each date will be posted prior to the meeting. The public is welcome.
The general contractor for the new Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus is working feverishly to get the building buttoned up to avoid any weather delays. Work continues on the inside of the project with rooms taking shape, in some places sheetrock is going up, and in a few places paint is being applied. Things continue to move along with occupancy still scheduled for September of 2022 (start of the school year). The Friends of Sumner's Future group continues to work with community members and businesses to raise money for the new building. To date, we have over $350,000 donated or pledged to the new building. If you are interested or know someone who is interested in donating money to the new building project, please reach out to the committee Chair Megan Moshier at firstname.lastname@example.org.
With inclement weather, a reminder that snow days will be snow days. We will not be doing remote instruction should we cancel school because of the weather. Notification of school cancellation will be made on the local news stations. Parents should also receive notifications via the school's robocall service. Parents should make sure the school is aware of your cell phone number(s).
Thank you for your continued support of our schools. Should you have any questions regarding the school or school system, please don't hesitate to send me an email at email@example.com.
